GULF STATES BIO AND AGRO-DEFENSE CONSORTIUM:

Alcorn State University
- The first historically black land-grant institution in America, Alcorn State University has a long history of service in teaching, research and extension. The recent recipient of a U.S. patent for an agricultural invention, Alcorn is Carnegie Master's I institution and a SREB Level 4 institution with educational programs in agriculture, biological sciences and biotechnology.

Atmos Energy Corporation - The country’s largest natural gas-only distributor, Atmos Energy serves approximately 3.2 million natural gas distribution customers in 12 states.  Atmos Energy also provides natural gas marketing and procurement services to industrial, commercial and municipal customers in 22 states and manages company-owned natural gas pipeline and storage assets, including one of the largest intrastate natural gas pipeline systems in Texas.


Battelle - Battelle is an international science and technology enterprise that explores emerging areas of science, develops and commercializes technology, and manages  laboratories. Managing eight facilities, Battelle conducts work with highly hazardous biological and chemical agents in BSL-3 laboratories, develops and evaluates animal models used in creating countermeasures and vaccines.


The City of Flora
- Located in southwest Madison County is the town of Flora, a rural farm community that is an ideal place to raise a family with quality schools and affordable housing.  Jackson, Canton, Clinton, Madison and Yazoo City are all within approximately a twenty minute drive, providing access to the Jackson metropolitan area. 


Entergy - Entergy Corporation is an integrated MISSISSIPPI: A PRO-BUINESS LEADER energy company engaged primarily in electric power production, retail distribution operations, energy marketing and trading, and gas transportation. Entergy owns and operates power plants with approximately 30,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity, and it is the second-largest nuclear generator in the United States.

Greater Jackson Alliance (formerly MetroJackson Economic Development Alliance)- GJA serves as the point of contact for companies considering locating or expanding in the Greater Jackson area, acts as the clearinghouse for prospect inquiries, and facilitates prospect visits and tours.  In addition, GJA works in tandem with other economic development groups, governmental entities, and private concerns to provide companies interested in Greater Jackson with the information and assistance they need.


The Governor's Office, State of Mississippi
- The Honorable Haley Barbour is the sixty-third Governor of Mississippi. Governor Barbour has an extensive history in politics and is described as one of the most effective political leaders in the country. Under his direction, "Momentum Mississippi” became a major focus of the state's economic development program. During the first three years of the Barbour Administration, Mississippi has seen a net increase of more than 38,000 new jobs and personal income is up more than 15 percent. Recent major announcements include Toyota, SeverCorr, and PACCAR.


Iowa State University
- The Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine is a cornerstone of one of the world's largest concentrations of animal heath professionals, with the USDA's National Animal Disease Center, the National Veterinary Services Laboratories, and the Center for Veterinary Biologics. The university is a national leader in training and education in animal security, foreign animal diseases and veterinary public health.

Jackson State University - With one of the leading GIS research installations in the region, Jackson State University is a leader in graduating minority science and technology professionals. The Center for Environmental Health is a state-of-the-art, multi-user research facility that has dedicated laboratories for molecular and cellular biology and analytical chemistry. The National Center for Biodefense Communications for Rural America is a strategic initiative to bring to bear internet-based technologies for early detection of significant human and animal health events.


Madison County Economic Development Authority
- The Madison County Economic Development Authority (MCEDA) offers a broad array of economic development, business development, and corporate site location assistance services to new and expanding businesses and industry. The mission of the Madison County Economic Development Authority is to assist our existing businesses and to attract new investment and jobs to Madison County.


MetroJackson Chamber of Commerce
- The MetroJackson Chamber of Commerce is the leading economic and community development organization in Mississippi's Capital Community. The focus of the MetroJackson Chamber is perhaps best stated by their motto "One Community for Success" - working to create strong relationships that move their community forward.


Mississippi Development Authority
- The Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) is the State of Mississippi’s lead economic and community development agency. The agency's mission is to foster a strong state economy and vibrant communities through innovation, use of talent and resources to improve our citizens' lives. With seven regional offices strategically located across the state, MDA's goal is the effective and efficient delivery of programs and services to local communities, businesses and economic developers.


Mississippi State University - Mississppi State University 's College of Veterinary Medicine is one of 28 accredited colleges of veterinary medicine in North America. The college has research, diagnostic, educational, and animal health service responsibilities. The college's Mississippi Veterinary Research and Diagnostic Laboratory is a part of the National Animal Health Laboratory Network and provides extensive sureillance programs for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and has one of 2 planned BSL-3 laboratories in the Metro Jackson area.

Mississippi Valley State University - Mississippi Valley State University is located in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, and provides undergraduate, graduate, and public service programs for the region. The university offers graduate programs in Rural Public Policy and Planning, Bioinformatics and Environmental Science. A member of the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund, Mississippi Valley has been recognized as one of the best historically black universities in the nation.

Tougaloo College
- Tougaloo College is a private, historically black, liberal arts institution, accessible to all persons regardless of race, ethnic origin, religion or creed. Ranked in the top 20 Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the nation and one of the top 20 liberal arts institutions in the nation, Tougaloo has produced more PhD degrees graduates through the UNCF-Mellon Doctoral Fellowship Program than any other institution in the nation.


Tulane University
- Tulane University has an international reputation for research in tropical medicine and infectious diseases. The Center for Infectious Diseases is a Tulane Center of Excellence with specialties in basic and applied studies of HIV/AIDS, vaccine development, tuberculosis, Lyme disease and malaria. Tulane University is also one of three Louisiana universities collaborating on the new Louisiana Vaccine Center, which will be established to encompass all stages of vaccine development.


Tulane National Primate Research Center
- The Tulane National Primate Research Center (TNPRC) is one of eight NIH-supported Primate Research Centers that constitute the National Primate Research Program. The TNPRC's four-part mission is to conduct biomedical research on human health issues, investigate nonhuman primate biology and diseases, serve as a center of excellence for nonhuman primate biomedical research and to train students, fellows and visiting scientists.


University of Mississippi
- The University of Mississippi is a research intensive university with nationally recognized faculty who hold membership with NIH study sections, FDA advisory panels and CDC advisory panels. The university's School of Pharmacy has over 68 faculty that specialize in pharmaceutical sciences, including pharmacology, toxicology and drug discovery, with a strong emphasis in anti-infectives. The National Center for Natural Products Research is a 115,000-square foot facility designated to drug discovery and development for infectious diseases and cancer.


University of Mississippi Medical Center
- The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) is a research and teaching institution that houses Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Health-Related Professions, Denistry and graduate studies in the Health Sciences. UMMC has both PhD and MD training in infectious diseases, with programs focussing on vaccine development and anti-infective theraphy. The recipent of the longest running NIH-funded grants, UMMC has one CDC certified BSL-3 laboratory for anthrax research and one facility under construction.


University of Texas Medical Branch
- The mission of The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is to provide scholarly teaching, innovative scientific investigation, and state-of-the-art patient care in a learning environment to better the health of society. UTMB operates the Robert E. Shope BSL-4 Laboratory, the only full-suite BSL-4 on an academic campus in the United States. The Keiller Building of UTMB is the most sophisticated biocontainment facility in the western United States, with BSL-3, ABSL-3, ACL-3, BSL-4 and ABSL-4 facilities.
